Murcia and its surrounding areas are in the main sheltered by hills and high mountains. This limits rainfall, except sometimes during the early winter months when Murcia experiences a "Gota Fria", this happens when the temperature suddenly drops resulting in torrential rain and flooding. The province of Murcia is furthermore famous for its salt lakes. This has a major knock on effect on humidity levels, and as a result the air is much dryer than in other parts of Spain and Europe.
Summer temperatures in Murcia will mostly be between 25C and 35C during the day. In the summer temperatures rarely drops below 15C. August is the hottest months with some days reaching 40C or more. Because of Murcia's low humidity you won't feel the temperatures as high as they really are. There is hardly any rain in the summer period.
In winter the weather in Murcia is very mild, with an average temperature of 11C for the months of December and January. One day it can be 20C feeling warm and nice, on another day it can be 6C feeling very cold. April and October are the wettest months of the year.
